SIELE (International Assessment Service for the Spanish Language) is an exam that certifies proficiency in Spanish through electronic means. It is aimed at students, professionals and adults worldwide.

• It is promoted by the Instituto Cervantes, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL) and the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). This guarantees quality standards and good practices in test development, as well as the use of different varieties of the Spanish-speaking world. The Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR) is an associated university and SIELE test center.
• It certifies the level of Spanish competence through four tests: Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Written Expression and Interaction, and Oral Expression and Interaction. It uses the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe as its reference.

 

UNR as a test center
UNR is a founding member of the International System for the Certification of Spanish as a Foreign Language (SICELE). Within this framework, SIELE, led by the Instituto Cervantes, recognizes it as a test center. In addition to its own certificates, the DUCLE (University Diploma of Competence in Spanish as a Foreign Language) and the DUCALE (University Diploma of Academic Competence in the Spanish Language), UNR is authorized to administer SIELE exams.

SIELE Global and independent formats

SIELE Global

This is the most complete format. It consists of a single test with a score from 0 to 1,000, resulting from adding the scores of the four tests (Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Written Expression and Interaction, and Oral Expression and Interaction), and it is linked to the CEFR levels. It includes tasks ranging from A1 to C1. Depending on the score achieved, the candidate is assigned the corresponding level.

Independent formats
These are five formats based on combinations of different tests. Any of them yields a SIELE Report, with scores related to the CEFR levels. These formats are:

• S1: Reading Comprehension + Listening Comprehension
• S2: Reading Comprehension + Written Expression and Interaction
• S3: Listening Comprehension + Oral Expression and Interaction
• S4: Oral Expression and Interaction
• S5: Written Expression and Interaction + Oral Expression and Interaction

Intended Candidates

SIELE is intended for anyone who needs to prove their command of Spanish to academic institutions, companies or public administrations, whether Spanish is their foreign, second or native language.

It is designed for young people and adults, and is especially suitable for those who need quick, efficient accreditation to be admitted to a university or to apply for a new job.

Validity

The SIELE certificate is internationally recognized and backed by the Instituto Cervantes and more than 80 partner institutions in over 20 countries across Ibero-America. These universities collaborate on research into the teaching of Spanish, vouch for the quality of the content and contribute innovative teaching materials.

The excellence of these institutions is one of the keys to SIELE’s reliability and academic prestige.

Exam Dates

SIELE is administered exclusively on Tuesdays of each week, in both the Global format and the independent formats, with a maximum of 5 candidates per date. Public holidays are excluded.
If on the day of the appointment there is a strike, a day off or any other reason that prevents PRAELEH from operating, the exam will be rescheduled for the following Tuesday.
To take the exam, you must register online at siele.org, through a prior appointment system. The day and time are set at the time of registration.
Exams are taken digitally at the SIELE Center of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, using the institution’s technological equipment.

 

Exam day

• Arrive at the Center 15 minutes before your assigned time.
• Bring the ID document you used to book the exam.
• Also bring your login credentials for siele.org (email and password).
• If you are taking SIELE Global, you will have a 15-minute break, which you may use between the Listening Comprehension and Written Expression and Interaction tests.

 

Results
Within a maximum of three weeks, you will be able to download your SIELE Certificate or Report from “My page”, depending on the exam format taken.

Registration

Registration is done entirely online. To register, follow these steps:

1. Go to the official SIELE website: siele.org.
2. Choose the exam format you wish to take: SIELE Global or one of the independent formats:
   • S1: Reading Comprehension + Listening Comprehension
   • S2: Reading Comprehension + Written Expression and Interaction
   • S3: Listening Comprehension + Oral Expression and Interaction
   • S4: Oral Expression and Interaction
   • S5: Written Expression and Interaction + Oral Expression and Interaction
3. Select the country and test center where you wish to take the exam. In this case:
   • Country: Argentina
   • Region: Santa Fe
   • City: Rosario
   • Test center: Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Facultad de Humanidades y Artes, PRAELEH
4. Choose an available date and time from the published calendar.
5. Arrive at the SIELE Center of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario 15 minutes before your assigned date and time.
