Details
SIELE is the International Evaluation Service of the Spanish Language a program which electronically certifies the command of the Spanish language for students and professionals.
- It is promoted by the Instituto Cervantes, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the University of Salamanca and the University of Buenos Aires. These institutions guarantee the quality standards and good practices applied in the creation of the exams and the use of the diverse linguistic varieties present in the Spanish-speaking world.
The National University of Rosario (UNR) is an associated institution and an exam center for SIELE.
SIELE certifies the degree of proficiency in the Spanish language with four tests:
Reading and Listening Comprehension, Written Expression and Interaction, and Spoken Expression and Interaction. The exam complies with the language-proficiency levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
UNR is a founding member of SICELE (International Certification System for Spanish as a Foreign Language) and, as such, SIELE and the Instituto Cervantes endorses our university as an exam center.
So, even though the National University of Rosario has its own Spanish exams, i.e., the DUCLE (University Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish as a Foreign Language) and the DUCALE (University Certificate of Academic Proficiency in Spanish), it is also qualified to offer SIELE exams following strict protocols.

SIELE offers six types of exams in order to adapt to each candidate’s specific certification needs.
SIELE GLOBAL
This is the most comprehensive online exam that certifies proficiency in Spanish.
It is a single multilevel exam that assigns a score from 0 to 1000, resulting from the sum of the scores for each of the four tests it is made up of (reading and listening comprehension, written and spoken expression and interaction). Score ranges are associated with the specific levels of proficiency described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
INDEPENDENT MODALITIES
These are five other exam types based on a combination of various tests. Any of these five independent exam types allow candidates to obtain a SIELE Report, and specific scores are associated with each of the CEFR levels.
The exam types offered are:
- S1: Reading Comprehension + Listening Comprehension
- S2: Reading Comprehension + Written Expression and Interaction
- S3: Listening Comprehension + Spoken Expression and Interaction
- S4: Spoken Expression and Interaction
- S5: Written Expression and Interaction + Spoken Expression and Interaction. This multilevel exam is meant for adult candidates and it includes tasks that range from A1 to C1 levels of proficiency. This means that the exam does not change according to proficiency level, and the score obtained by the candidate will indicate their command of Spanish in accordance with a standardized protocol.
